Pa's Garden | Enfleurage Perfume Balm

A scent so dear to my heart, as it was made using flowers harvested from my grandfather’s garden. During the process of collecting his blooms, I was able to spend many afternoons with him; walking through and chatting about his garden; sharing with him how I plan to extract their scent; he sharing with me where each plant originated, including the Rose bush Remember Me, which was gifted to him by my maternal grandparents, when his wife, my paternal grandmother, passed away.

I began this extraction by pre-fixing Vanilla Oleoresin into a base of Shea Nilotica Butter and Jojoba Oil.

I then placed flowers from Pa’s Garden onto the Pomade, over and over again, until it was saturated in their scent. These flowers included Roses, Freesias, Lemon and Mandarin Blossoms, Jonquils, Jasmine, Murraya (Orange Jasmine) and Japanese Honeysuckle.

My grandfather was a sheep farmer all his life. Because of this, during the potting process, I also added just a smidge of Lanolin, that I had extracted from the wool of one of our own sheep. It is undetectable, and was added purely for sentimental reasons.

The result is a Perfume Balm that opens with the sharpness of the Honeysuckle, settles into fruity Rose, then dries down with Vanilla and finally an almost Caramel note. Each Balm is topped with a single, dried, Remember Me rose petal. 

This release of Pa’s Garden Enfleurage Perfume Balm will be the only one where I am able to use flowers from my grandfather’s garden. Pa is now living in a nursing home, and I may not have access to his garden in the future. I am hoping to be able to grow in my own garden, what he has growing in his, so I can continue to create this unique homage to my beloved Pa.
